<br />Assistant Building <br />Official <br />Class Code: <br />177 <br />Bargaining Unit: 02 - Supervisory <br />MARION COUNTY <br />Established Date: Nov 22, 2017 <br />Revision Date: Nov 22, 2017 <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$2,400.80 - $3,217.60 Biweekly <br />$5,201.73 - $6,971.47 Monthly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Exempt02 ProfessionalsPublic Works <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Supervises the inspection staff and permit specialists of the Building Inspection Division of Public Works <br />and assists in the administration of the State Building Code and the Department of Environmental Quality <br />on-site sewage disposal rules. Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing staffing and controlling <br />of divisional responsibilities including the administration and enforcement of the various codes regulating <br />construction, use or occupancy of all building and structures within the jurisdiction. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general supervision of the Building and Planning Division Manager, who establishes <br />goals and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness through the analysis of reports and <br />conferences. Position self-assigns work and priorities. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Exercises direct supervision over inspectors, plans examiners, and on-site wastewater specialists. <br />Participates in the selection of new personnel, provides for training, assigns and prioritizes work, <br />evaluates performance, responds to grievances and recommends personnel transactions. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br />1.Performs plan review of construction plans, on-site inspections of residential and commercial <br />building construction to ensure compliance with applicable State Building Codes. <br />2.Supervises staff and coordinates training programs; assigns and reviews work; evaluates staff; <br />and conducts training to update skills and certifications levels. <br />3.Assists in developing the divisional budget Attends to all aspects of code enforcement, including <br />the issuance of all building permits, review of plans, and inspection of buildings, rendering <br />interpretations and resolving disputes. <br />4.Coordinates divisional activities with other allied county and state agencies; represents Marion <br />County on building related legislative issues. <br />5.Confers with the general public and assists them in the understanding and interpretation of the <br />State Building Code. <br />6.Composes correspondence to other agencies and the public while maintaining reports and <br />records. <br />7.Develops, maintains and administers the division's quality control program. In the absence of the <br />Building and Planning Division Manager, serves as the County Building Official, under Oregon <br />Revised Statues (ORS 455.150) and provides policy direction or interpretation for the Building <br />Inspection Division <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Bachelor's degree in architecture, business, engineering, construction management, or social <br />sciences with three (3) years increasingly responsible building inspection experience. <br />Page of <br />?? <br /> <br />
