Provides backup for dog intake and processing <br />impound documents. <br />4.Consults with veterinarian about animal medical care and problems; prepares and administers <br />medications and preventive vaccinations; applies and removes wound and surgical dressings, <br />casts and splints; may transport sick or seriously injured animals to the veterinarian. <br />5.Assists public in finding lost pets; provides advice on general pet care and responsible pet <br />ownership. <br />6.Performs euthanasia on dogs; disposes of animals in a safe, clean, and efficient manner; <br />maintains clean euthanasia area and exam rooms. <br />7.Assists dog control officers as necessary, documents animal condition, provides dog control <br />officers with written information regarding dogs condition, medical needs, observed behaviors and <br />may testify in court and/or assist the veterinarian in forensic examinations when required. <br />8.Works together with co-workers and volunteers to create a healthy, cooperative, safe, organized, <br />and friendly shelter for the Marion County community. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Be a certified veterinary technician accredited by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board; <br />OR <br />2.Eligible for reciprocity; AND <br />3.Two (2) years of experience as a certified veterinary technician in an animal shelter or veterinary <br />clinic. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to <br />the position. <br />PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS <br />Candidates with animal shelter and/or animal welfare experience. <br />> <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Class C Oregon driver's license.If in <br />> <br />possession of a current out of state driver's license, must obtain Oregon driver's license within 30 <br />days of hire. <br />Possess and maintain an acceptable driving record. A copy of the driving record for all qualified <br />> <br />applicants will be obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles. <br />Possession of, or be able to obtain within one (1) month of hire, a Euthanasia Technician <br />> <br />certificate issues by the State of Oregon; or be eligible for reciprocity. <br />Possession of a Certified Veterinary Technician Certificate issued by the Oregon Veterinary <br />> <br />Medical Board in good standing; or be eligible for reciprocity. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Working knowledge of dog behavior, breed identification, shelter animal health, and herd health; dog <br />anatomy and physiology; basic principles and procedures of technical veterinary medicine, including <br />treatment and control of common diseases and basic first aid for dogs; safe and efficient animal handling <br />techniques; State and County laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the control, <br />impoundment, retention and release of dogs; safe and humane euthanasia techniques and procedures, <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/4/2020 <br /> <br />
