<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Public Works Director <br />Class Code: <br />309 <br />Bargaining Unit: 10 - Department Heads <br />MARION COUNTY <br />Established Date: Oct 1, 1980 <br />Revision Date: Aug 29, 2018 <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$4,396.00 - $5,888.80 Biweekly <br />$9,524.67 - $12,759.07 Monthly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Exempt01 Officials and AdministratorsPublic Works <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Provides executive leadership and management through planning, directing and reviewing the <br />administrative, engineering, transportation, land use, construction, environmental and emergency <br />management operations and activities of the county Public Works Department; oversees programs and <br />services including roadways, bridges, ferries, building inspection, planning, zoning, parks, special <br />districts, sewage and solid waste disposal facilities, emergency management operations, facilities and <br />fleet management. Develops department goals, objectives, and strategies to meet the county strategic <br />goals and provides highly responsible and complex management analysis and support to the Board of <br />Commissioners and the Chief Administrative Officer. This is an unclassified position that serves at the <br />pleasure of the appointing authority. <br />Effectively leads and manages the public works staff; administers a variety of programs and services; <br />manages a diverse workforce; interprets and applies department and county policies and procedures in <br />accordance with the county expectations and enterprise approach; communicates effectively orally and in <br />writing; identifies and responds to department and county issues; applies strategic thinking; utilizes <br />principles of effective management and organizational development; holds staff and contractors <br />accountable for outcomes; makes public and employee presentations; establishes effective working <br />relationships with a variety of individuals and groups; engages various constituencies and the public in <br />policy development and program implementation, promotes effective community engagement strategies <br />within the divisions, interprets and applies pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, <br />as well as industry-standard best practices. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer or designee, who assigns work, <br />establishes goals, and assesses performance through observation and evaluation of results obtained. <br />Works under the policy direction of the Board of Commissioners. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Provides full supervision and oversight through delegated division managers for all supervisory and non- <br />supervisory staff within the Public Works Department. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/4/2020 <br /> <br />
