Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Possession of, or obtain within six (6) months of hire, an Oregon registration as a Professional <br />> <br />Engineer's (PE) in Civil Engineering or a closely related professional engineering license. <br />Possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Class C Oregon driver's license. If in <br />> <br />possession of a current out of state driver's license, must obtain Oregon driver's license within 30 <br />days of hire. <br />Possess and maintain an acceptable driving record. A copy of the driving record for all qualified <br />> <br />applicants will be obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Final candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug-screening test. <br />> <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Thorough knowledge of: modern civil engineering principles and practices, with special reference to <br />public works infrastructure at the level of local government; civil engineering materials and methods of <br />construction; special requirements of federal aid projects; principles of project management; principles of <br />roadway operations analysis; project funding sources and mechanisms; and the fundamentals of effective <br />public involvement. <br />Skill and ability to: design civil engineering projects; perform complex calculations; prepare plans, <br />specifications and cost estimates; effectively communicate in both oral and written form; establish and <br />maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with engineers, planners, developers, <br />regulatory agencies, and members of the general public; balance the overall, long-term needs of the <br />agency with shorter-term demands and opportunities; engage in creative problem solving and to blend <br />theory with practical application; to plan, document, and execute a project plan from inception to <br />completion in accordance with project requirements; to function in a lead worker capacity; and operate a <br />computer and engineering related computer software; operate a motor vehicle. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work performed in a general office or field environment. Office work includes the use of a computer using <br />word processing, spreadsheet, databases, E-mail programs or programs specific to the position. <br />Fieldwork includes working in a variety of inclement weather conditions, sometime working in close <br />proximity to roadway traffic. Occasionally may traverse rough and uneven terrain. Must be able to lift and <br />carry up to 20 pounds of equipment.
