Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />5.Performs the labor associated with the construction, installation, and maintenance of the overall <br />radio network equipment; maintains emergency generator system; develops and designs special <br />radio systems and equipment. <br />6.Develops and plans operating and technical procedures for countywide radio communication <br />systems in accordance with current Federal Communications Commission regulations. <br />7.Develops a system of regular maintenance schedules for radio systems and performs the labor <br />associated with this phase. <br />8.Prepares and submits to the Federal Communications Commission all necessary data required to <br />obtain licenses and permits covering all department radio stations and the other public safety <br />agencies served. <br />9.Assists in repair of electronic traffic control signal equipment and automobile electrical systems. <br />10.Designs and installs other related systems, such as but not limited to, radio telemetry, radio <br />alarms, solar-powered sites, and video systems. <br />11.Updates and maintains inventory of parts and supplies related to the repair of two-way radios; <br />develops labor rates and bills agencies and departments for radio work performed. <br />12.Performs on-call pager duty as necessary. <br />13.Performs other related duties as assigned. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from an accredited two-year electronics technician program, including or supplemented <br />by course work closely related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; AND <br />2.Four (4) years responsible technical experience in radio communications; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Possession of a Federal Communications Commission general class or extra class radio- <br />> <br />telephone operator's license. <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at <br />> <br />time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, conviction of a crime may not <br />> <br />necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination by a county-appointed medical <br />> <br />doctor and have good physical agility. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Knowledge of the technical and operational aspects of radio-telephone transmitting, receiving, testing and <br />auxiliary equipment; current improvements and developments in communications systems and <br />equipment; and of Federal Communications Commission rules and guidelines applicable to government <br />communications. <br />Skill and ability to use tools and test equipment to repair, install and service various types of electronic <br />equipment; install and construct equipment from schematic plans and diagrams; lead the work of <br />assigned staff and advise others on effective radio systems and electronics theory and repair <br />fundamentals; work effectively and cooperatively with County employees and the public; operate <br />equipment in accordance with Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations; and work <br />independently with a minimum of direct supervision. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in a shop or field environment. Shop work includes the use of a computer using word <br />processing, and e-mail programs or programs specific to the position. Fieldwork includes working in a <br />variety of inclement weather conditions.
