<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Juvenile Department <br />Director <br />Class Code: <br />207 <br />Bargaining Unit: 10 - Department Heads <br />MARION COUNTY <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$3,797.60 - $5,088.80 Biweekly <br />$8,228.13 - $11,025.73 Monthly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Exempt01 Officials and Administrators Juvenile <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Plans, organizes and directs the operations of the Juvenile department; confers with the Board of <br />Commissioners, Circuit Court Judge/Referee, concerning department policies, goals, and operations; <br />evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of existing department programs and operations, revising as <br />necessary to meet established goals; interprets issues/problems of crime and delinquency aims of the <br />Court and department staff; prepares department budget with emphasis on program budgeting and <br />control; and performs related duties as required. <br />The Director must have high level skills and abilities in human relations, organizational behavior, <br />management principles and practices (including planning, organizing, directing, motivating, and decision <br />making); communication (verbal and written); analysis and policy development; and supervision, including <br />planning and assigning work, motivating staff to work effectively and directing work flow to promote the <br />agency mission. The Director position requires skills not only in managing employees, but also in relating <br />with community volunteers, local government officials, business and corporate representatives, social <br />service providers, and children/family advocates. <br />The Director is expected to apply a high level of creative and developmental thinking. Additional skills <br />include: identifying high level policy issues and developing response strategies for the Board: skill in <br />originating and implementing a broad range of proposed programs and initiatives that start as a vision or <br />concept; skill in negotiating various levels of participation by business leaders in partnerships with the <br />County; and skill in creating a high level of support and participation by state and local government <br />officials, community leaders and the public.
