Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />5.Responds to emergency situations and interacts to diffuse aggressive situations; handles difficult <br />and specialized discipline problems by using corrections techniques and established disciplinary <br />controls. <br />6.Ensures safety, reports improperly functioning building apparatuses and faulty equipment; cleans <br />facilities, clothing, bedding and equipment as needed; performs minor equipment and vehicle <br />maintenance. <br />7.Facilitates and/or co-facilitates evidence-based programming; supervises youth on outings in the <br />community; oversees community projects on occasion. <br />8.Works a variety of hours; may work different shifts or weekend hours on a variable schedule; <br />remains alert and observant during shifts; is punctual in reporting for shifts. <br />9.Transports or provides for transportation of juveniles as needed. <br />10.Maintains the security of the facility including key and equipment control; conducts inspections, <br />security checks and searches; follows department and program policies and procedures; <br />supervises visitors. <br />11.Provides information on individual youth to probation staff, caseworkers or medical personnel as <br />requested; exhibits clear communication both verbally and in writing; maintains confidentiality. <br />12.Develops and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, families, and the <br />public; exhibits cooperative behavior. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Two (2) years of college course work in juvenile justice, sociology, psychology, or a related field; <br />OR <br />2.Two (2) years experience (paid or unpaid) working with juveniles or at-risk youth; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at <br />> <br />time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. (This requirement may be modified under <br />exceptional circumstances.) <br />This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be <br />> <br />required to pass a post offer drug screen. including testing for marijuana. The Marion County Drug <br />and Alcohol Use and Testing Policy can be found at: <br />http://apps.co.marion.or.us/APAP/policy.aspx?p=policy&pid=518 <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Knowledge of: juvenile behavior and corrections techniques used in working with juvenile <br />offenders; security procedures and first aid; minor equipment maintenance; outdoor skills (such as wood <br />cutting or carpentry). <br />Ability to: learn juvenile laws in the State of Oregon; know security procedures and first aid; implement <br />techniques with juvenile offenders in a group setting; communicate effectively with juveniles, co-workers <br />and supervisory staff both in oral and written form; understand and follow oral and written <br />instructions; keep records; develop effective working relationships with other agencies, co-workers and <br />the public; use sound, practical and fair judgment in assessment and decision making; drive a motor <br />vehicle; work on a flexible schedule; implement techniques with juvenile offenders in a group setting. <br />ADOPTED: <br />04/15 <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/3/2020 <br /> <br />
