Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />• Final candidate will be required to pass a drug screening test. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in a field environment or a simple office structure. Office work includes the use of a <br />computer using word processing and e-mail programs or programs specific to the position. Fieldwork <br />includes working in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes working in close proximity to roadway <br />traffic. Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain; to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; <br />climb up on vehicles to inspect load; stand for long periods of time; and work around compostable <br />materials. Positions related to road construction and maintenance may be required to work flexible <br />schedules and long hours throughout the year, particularly during construction season (May through <br />October) and inclement winter weather (November through February). Positions at disposal sites or <br />transfer stations may be required to work weekends and holidays and attend after hour meetings. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY <br />Considerable knowledge of: the operation, maintenance and minor repair of road, bridge maintenance <br />and/or vegetation control equipment; state laws pertaining to operation of motor vehicles and equipment <br />on roads and highways; technical and procedural knowledge of work methods required to perform in <br />specialty are assigned; materials, methods and equipment commonly employed in performing the duties <br />within the specialty area assigned; safety practices and methods to perform efficiently within the specialty <br />area. <br />Skill and ability to: perform strenuous manual work under hazardous conditions and adverse weather <br />conditions; establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and the public.
