Provides consultation, counseling and education to <br />individuals and agencies concerned with proper food selection and nutrition; assists in promoting a <br />nutrition program; does related work as required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general direction of the program supervisor. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class but may exercise lead <br />responsibility over other WIC staff. Will provide guidance to student interns seeking experience in WIC. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />Assists in planning, developing and implementing a program in nutrition. <br />1. <br />Assists in preparing and evaluating nutrition education materials and interprets their use. <br />2. <br />Provides staff training for client counseling in nutrition. This includes emphasis on the normal <br />3. <br />nutrition of family members, as well as the nutrition of the expectant and nursing mother, the <br />newborn, and the preschool, school age and adolescent child. <br />Provides direct nutrition counseling to individuals and families with high-risk nutritional needs. <br />4. <br />May assist in coordinating special nutrition programs such as WIC, including: <br />5. <br />Evaluating nutritional risk status of applicants utilizing clinical, biochemical, diet and <br />◦ <br />socio-economic data. <br />Assuring prompt, courteous and adequate service for program participants and their <br />◦ <br />family members. <br />Acting as staff trainer for the WIC program. Trains staff in evaluating food intake and <br />◦ <br />food habits of applicants.
