<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Public Health Worker 2 <br />Class Code: <br />550 <br />Bargaining Unit: 06 - Marion County Employees <br />Association <br />MARION COUNTY <br />Established Date: Oct 1, 2005 <br />Revision Date: Apr 18, 2017 <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$16.35 - $21.88 Hourly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br /> Non-Exempt 05 ParaprofessionalsHealth <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Assures the health and social service needs of a specific population are being met primarily through clinic <br />visits, and visits to other agencies and social services resources; refers clients to appropriate resources, <br />advocating to obtain required services as necessary, and providing information and education on health- <br />related issues; may act as an interpreter for clients; performs other duties as required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general direction of a health services professional and/or supervisor, who assigns work, <br />establishes goals and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />The positions in the public health worker series are paraprofessionals focused on providing or supporting <br />services to individuals. <br />Public Health Worker 1: spends more than 50% of their time performing assigned standard tasks and <br />duties of a general nature, primarily in a clinic or office setting. Employees in this class typically <br />implement basic procedures and practices that are well-defined by the supervisor or professional staff, <br />such as restocking/ordering supplies, rooming patients, or making phone call reminders, or assisting a <br />client with an OHP application. <br />Public Health Worker 2: may perform the standard tasks and duties found at the PHW 1 level, but <br />spends more than 50% of their time performing tasks that require critical thinking within a defined process <br />such as managing an inventory to ensure adequate supplies at multiple clinic sites, or providing basic <br />case management/outreach services to a client that fit within a pre-determined protocol or care plan. <br />Generally these case management services are focused around a specific issue such as mental health, <br />or prenatal care. <br />Public Health Worker 3: may perform the duties found at the PHW 1 and 2 levels. More typically the <br />PHW 3 spends more than 50% their time in the field providing public health or mental health services, <br />and spends more than 50% of their time performing case management or other work that requires them <br />to have a broad knowledge of the health services to be provided. When providing case management <br />services, the PHW 3's focus is on addressing the broad needs of the individual or family, requiring them <br />to have an extensive understanding of the related health and social service resources. The PHW 3 <br />functions within a pre-determined protocol or care plan, but applies critical thinking skills to ensure the <br />objectives of the plan are met.
