" <br /> <br />Smoke detectors shall be installed outside of 'ea6h s~parate sleeping <br />area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional <br />story of the dwelling including basements. In dwelling units with split <br />levels, a smoke detector need be installed only on the upper level, <br />provided the lower level is less than one full story below the upper <br />level, except that if there is a door between levels then a detector is <br />required on each level. All detectors shall be interconnected such that <br />the actuation of one alarm will a~tuate all the alarms in the individual <br />unit and shall provide an alarm which will be audible in all sleeping <br />areas. (R-215.1) <br /> <br />Bathrooms shall be provided with artificial light and an approved <br />mechanical ventilation system capable of producing a change of air every <br />12 minutes or a window of not less than 3 sq. ft., one-half of which <br />must be openable. (R-203.3) <br /> <br />A minimum clearance of 21" is required in front of the water closet. <br />(Figure R-207.2) The bath located between Bedroom #2 and Bedroom #3 <br />does not appear to provided this clearance. <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />Provide screened attic vents with a net free area of 1/150 of the attic <br />area (or 1/300 if half is along eaves and the other half in the upper <br />portion). (R-707) <br /> <br />15. <br /> <br />A readily accessible attic access shall be provided to any attic area <br />having a clear height of over 30 inches. A framed opening not less than <br />22 in. by 30 in. is required. Fireplace and chimney construction shall conform to chapter 9. <br /> <br />19. <br /> <br />Masonry chimneys shall be provided with vertical and horizontal <br />reinforcing as per Table R-903.1. <br /> <br />20. <br /> <br />Masonry chimneys shall be lined with fireclay flue liners not less than <br />5/8 inch in thickness or with other approved liner material that will <br />resist, without cracking or softening, a temperature of 1,800 degrees F. <br />(R-901.7) <br /> <br />21. <br /> <br />Factory-built or masonry fireplaces shall be equipped with an exterior <br />air supply to assure proper fuel combustion.
