Maynard Hammer asked for the seismic zone? Leonard Lodder said zone 3.
Maynard Hammer said he is concerned about the private offices on the outside
area, leaving a dark inner core with no natural light. Leonard Lodder noted glass
re-lights will be used to bring natural light into the inner core. The bulk of private
offices are on the floor housing the District Attorney's office. The other floors
have natural light in all the habitable work areas.
Maynard Hammer asked if the walls will be hard or flexible. Leonard Lodder
noted they will be non-load bearing flexible walls so they can be removed and
the area re-configured in the future.
Billy Wasson noted the A.C.C. budget estimates includes the cost of a third
elevator at $100,000. The design development documents only show two
elevators, but a third one was added after staff discussions.
Maynard Hammer asked if the private offices are fully ADA compliant. Leonard
Lodder noted, yes.
David Cameron asked if Melvin Mark or the architect found any numbers that
seemed too high? Craig Lewis said there were no surprises, the report and
costs are straight forward.
David Cameron asked if changes need to be made based on the cost estimates.
Craig Lewis noted changes have taken place since the schematic designs with
the question Do we need that? and What is the quality?
Furnishinqs
Jerry Vessello asked about partitions for the open spaces. Randy Curtis said he
is working with the architect to ensure the building will accommodate the existing
modular furnishings. There is no plan to purchase new furnishings.
Parking Spaces
Carl Beach asked why alternative #1 is favored over alternative #2. Billy Wasson
said alternate #2 is not feasible at this time because of the number of unknown
features. The concrete columns are weighted based on the number of floors of
the building, and right now the type of above ground structure for the north site
development is unknown.
Carl Beach asked at what point will alternative #2 no longer be considered. Billy
Wasson said it can be done now but it would require a lot of assumptions on the
part of the architect. Leonard Lodder said alternative #2 can be built now with
knock out panels for pre-determined items like elevators, stairs, heating. It
requires a lot of assumptions.
R.G. Andersen-Wyckoff noted there is a significant public risk to develop
alternative #2 with all of the unknown variables. He believes it is not in the
public interest to pursue alternative #2, but it is a policy decision.
Craig Lewis reminded the Committee the design development documents and
cost estimates are a snap shot of the project. There will be unknown things that
will come up and cost money and he does not feel there is excess money for
extras and the current contingency is prudent.
Jerry Vessello said if alternative #2 is not considered then he would like to
review things that have a recognized pay back.
