increasingly serve as facilitators and problem-solvers to guide clients through the <br />venues of an integrated dispute resolution system. They also act as professional <br />counselors, mediators, arbitrators and private judges. <br />• The formal system of legal education, including continuing legal education, reflects <br />these changes in the profession. Legal curricula reflect a broader range of inquiry and <br />provide training in psychology, counseling, group process and facilitation, mediation, <br />arbitration and conflict resolution. More law students have begun to specialize in these <br />areas. <br />• The Oregon State Bar has been encouraged and supported by the judiciary to take a <br />leadership role in long-range planning. The Bar has developed and implemented a <br />vision for the legal profession in an integrated dispute resolution system. <br />PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OUTREACH <br />Multi-Option Justice Education <br />As overseer of the integrated system of dispute resolution, the Oregon Judicial Department <br />has assumed an aggressive role in educating the public. The OJD wants to enhance public <br />awareness and understanding of both the judicial process and the integral role of courts in <br />society These efforts are considered important long-term investments in the future health <br />of society and delivery of justice <br />• Outreach and education are the cornerstone of the multi-option just~ce system. The <br />state courts actively support efforts to help people understand and exercise their options <br />for resolving disputes. Educational efforts begin at an early age with the teaching of <br />conflict resolution in schools. Information is widely distributed through a variety of <br />channeLs. On-site community outreach and education services are ~vailable through <br />the Community Dispute Resolution Centers statewide. <br />• The OJD's Division of Public Outreach and Education facilitates these public outreact~ <br />and education activities.
