If
protection is upgraded to Level C, an exclusion zone will be set up within the work area, and
a contamination reduction zone (decontamination area) will be established at the boundary of
the exclusion zone.
Decontamination Area
The decontamination procedures will provide an organized process by which levels of
contamination will be reduced. The decontamination procedures will be performed in a
specific sequence at separate stations. Stations will be arranged in order of decreasing
contamination. A description of the work to be performed at each station is as follows:
1. Equipment Drop: Deposit equipment used on site (e.g., tools, sample
containers, monitoring instruments, clipboards, etc.) on plastic (visqueen) drop
cloths. If temperatures are high, a cool-down area may be part of this station.
If equipment is not to be re-used at the site, it will be thoroughly
decontaminated by washing and rinsing in separate tubs.
7
