. t
ACTION: Randy asked Bob to determine if the mini blinds contained lead paint.
~
Elyn asked if the building had to be totally empty before the salvage begins? She believes there is
a lot of Housing Authority property still on the premises. Randy is not prepared to except
responsibility for materials left by the housing authority. Bob indicated that anything of any value
should be removed. Anything left behind will be treated as trash and the county will be charged for
the removal of all debris. If departments do not want to take things with them they should make
arrangements to discard or remove them.
Item 3: Project Schedule
The building will be ready to be vacated approximately May 1 st. There is a possibility that the date
may slip to as late as June 1, but the May lst date is the target date. Randy asked if it was more
efficient to stagger the departrnents as they move, or if it is more efficient to move all at once. This
may be an issue for telephones and computers. Randy asked if the movers could use the elevator
in the apartments and Bob indicated that the elevator would be operational.
ACTION: Randy asked Elyn to give him a recommended schedule, particularly if it is a"phased
move" . Can we phase ourselves out of this building and into another without any interruption of
services? Bob indicated it would be better for his staff to spread the move over phases. Elyn has
been telling departments that they should prioritize which computers they would like to have made
~ available first. Bob asked Elyn to include phone hook-up in that request.
Item 4: Relocation
There are currently two sites, KMart on Portland Road and Best on Lancaster. Based on the deal
offered, Randy is considering the Best store as the better location. The KMart building is in very
poor shape. The owner is not offering any fix up. There is 80,000 sq ft and the county needs only
40,000. If the other half of the building is leased, we would have to build a ceiling to floor wall to
secure our half of the building. That would be a high cost. The rent of the Best store would be less.
We would rent almost the entire building. We may have more control and more flexibility at the
Best store.
ACTIDN: Randy asked Dan to develop a floor plan for departments at the Best store with minimum
expense for remodel. We would have to determine the need for closed offices. The county may also
be responsible for adding or improving restrooms.
ACTION.• After the tour of the best building, Randy asked Elyn to call a meeting for the affected
departments to brief them on what we have found. Randy also asked Elyn to check on the utility
bills for the Best store.
Bob indicated that there are more partitions that originally thought. There are approximately 1,000
~ linear feet. Randy is not sure how much square footage is at Best. If possible, he would like to see
divisions between departments when square footage allows. Randy has asked for 5,000 square feet
for storage.
