Century West coordinated regular weekly review meetings at the project site with Marion County
and Staton Construction. These meetings focused on the overall progress and status of the
demolition process, the demolition schedule, environmental issues, and demolition recycling.
Additionally, Design Team issues such as a pumping test for construction calculations, shoring
and fill placement, and footing removal issues were presented to Staton Construction as they
arose. Summaries of these meetings were provided to the Design Team and Marion County on a
weekly basis (Appendix E, Weekly Meeting Notes).
4.2 Marion County Salvage List
Century West assisted Marion County in the retrieval of a list of items from each of the buildings
as identified in the Schedule of Salvage Items in the Project Specifications.
4.3 Site Health and Safety
Staton Construction provided a site health and safety plan and maintained site safety including
first aid supplies and hard hats for all visitors to the site. All personnel entering the site were
required to sign in at the construction office and wear a hard hat while on the site. No incidents
affecting health and safety were reported during the demolition process.
4.3.1 Noise Level Monitoring
Noise decibel sound levels were monitored and tested on a regular basis. Noise levels were kept
within required limits, and no complaints regarding noise were received during the demolition
process.
4.4 Non-Demolition Activities
4.4.1 Pumping Test
Century West coordinated scheduling, drilling and pumping equipment placement with Staton
Construction so that a pumping test could be performed on the Courthouse Square property.
Century West managed the pumping test, the associated groundwater treatment and discharge,
and provided the test results to the design team. The pumping test itself was conducted by
Geotechnical Resources, Inc. under a separate contract with Marion County. (Appendix G: Site
Photographs, Photo 1.)
Century West coordinated personnel and consultants associated with the 24-hour pumping test,
including the test location, transferring existing hydrogeologic data, scheduling meetings, and
subsurface contamination issues. Century West provided oversight of field activities and
communicated progress and findings to Marion County.
Demolition Management Page 4 C~'EC 6/4/98
Courthouse Square Projcct 40806-001-22
Marion County
